Original story from News12
A new medical gel created in Brooklyn is helping animals recover from surgery by stopping bleeding in seconds.

The gel was made by Brooklyn-based Cresilon Inc. in 2010. It was founded by Joe Landolina when he was a freshman at NYU and began working on the gel.

“Over the first decade, we spent a lot of time making the product ready for market, making sure that we do all of the testing necessary in order to support the safety and efficacy of the product and building our manufacturing,” said Landolina.

It was approved for animal use and in 2020, Cresilon started distributing it to vets, like Dr. Matthew Morgan, who works in Gowanus.

"This is something that we can get into the more tighter places and put into wounds, whereas before we couldn't really stuff the more foldable material in," said Dr. Morgan.

Landolina is now working to get an altered version of the gel approved for human use by the FDA, which he hopes will one day help soldiers in battle.
